The God Who Sees Me - Study Guide & Memoir #2

Introduction to the Book

A person holding book

Have you ever wondered where you truly belong? Have you ever struggled with your identity, questioning if you are seen, loved, or even wanted?

There are moments in life that leave us feeling uncertain, invisible, or even abandoned. Maybe it was a word spoken over you that planted doubt in your heart. Maybe it was a time you were overlooked, pushed aside, or made to feel like you didn’t matter. Maybe you’ve carried silent questions deep within: Am I enough? Do I have a purpose? If I disappeared, would anyone notice?

Identity is more than just a name or where we come from—it’s about knowing who we are and whose we are. It’s about understanding that we are not accidents, not mistakes, not just filling space in the world. We were created with purpose, chosen by God, seen and known by Him before we even took our first breath. But sometimes, life has a way of making us forget.

I know what it’s like to feel that confusion, to have a moment where everything you thought you knew about yourself suddenly felt uncertain. As a child, I believed I was secure, loved, and wanted—until one moment shattered that confidence. One sentence spoken in passing, one piece of paper with words that weren’t there, one lie whispered by the enemy—and suddenly, I wasn’t sure who I was anymore.

Chapter Summaries

But here’s the truth: what the enemy tries to steal, God restores.

In the Bible, Hagar was a woman who felt unseen, cast out, and forgotten. She wandered in the wilderness, carrying wounds of rejection and abandonment, believing she was alone. But in her lowest moment, God appeared to her and called her by name. She was never forgotten, never forsaken. She encountered

El Roi, the God who sees.

Just like Hagar, I had a moment where God met me in my wilderness. When I felt unwanted, He whispered that I was chosen. When I felt abandoned, He reminded me that I belonged to Him. When I doubted my worth, He told me that I was His treasure. And just like Hagar, I found my identity not in the words of people, but in the truth of the One who made me.

Dear Sister or Brother,

If you’re thinking of buying this book, I want you to know, I’ve prayed for you. This wasn’t just something I sat down and decided to write. This was birthed in the quiet places, in the tears, in the moments where I felt unseen and forgotten — and where Jesus met me over and over again.

This study isn’t just a collection of lessons. It’s my story. It’s Hagar’s story. And I believe it’s your story too. Because I know what it feels like to be mistreated, to carry pain you didn’t ask for, to wonder if God really sees you — and I know the healing that comes when you realize He does.

I didn’t write this because I had all the answers. I wrote it because God met me in my wilderness, and I couldn’t stay silent about what He did. Every page was shaped by His Spirit, every word prayed over, and every section meant to speak to the parts of you that have maybe gone unnoticed for far too long.

This is for the woman who’s been through it. The one who’s smiled when she felt broken, stayed silent when her heart screamed, and wondered if she could ever be whole again.

If that’s you — this is your invitation to come close. Not to me, but to the God who sees you. The God who calls you by name. The One who never looked away.

I pray this journey changes you the way it changed me — gently, deeply, and forever.

With all my heart,

Katie Marie
